The head of the PLO’s Detainees and Ex-Detainees Commission, Qadri Abu Baker, was killed in a car accident close to Jamma’in. After returning from a celebration for the children of Palestinian prisoners, Qadri Abu Baker and two other people were killed in a car accident on Route 505 north of Salfit in the northern part of the occupied West Bank.

After leaving a celebration honoring the children of Palestinian prisoners, Qadri Abu Baker, the chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s (PLO) Detainees and Ex-Detainees Commission, was slain on Saturday on Route 505 close to the village of Jamma’in.

The minister of health, Mai al-Kaila, praised Abu Baker as a “brave freedom fighter” who devoted his life to the problem of Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli prisons. The news was also shared by Quds News Network’s Twitter on that day.

Abu Baker, who was born in 1953 in the town of Biddya in the occupied West Bank, served 17 years in prison after being detained by Israeli authorities for bringing weapons into the West Bank. After being sent to Iraq, he later made a comeback and took over as chairman of inmates until his passing in 2018.

Hamas sent its condolences in a statement, stating that it “remembers the struggle of Abu Bakr and Sawan, and their contribution to supporting the prisoners and their cause.”
