Al-Quds Hospital in Gaza, the second-largest hospital in the enclave ceases its operation due to fuel shortage, putting the lives of several people in danger. The hospital was providing as much medical assistance to people as it could and is also serving as a shelter for the displaced.
The PRCS said in a statement on Sunday that “the hospital has been left to fend for itself under ongoing Israeli bombardment, posing severe risks to the medical staff, patients and displaced civilians,” which increased anxiety for the Palestinians who were seeking care and shelter there.
Why al-Quds Hospital in Gaza is stopping it’s services
The power outage and gasoline shortage are the causes of this service interruption. In the face of extreme humanitarian circumstances and a lack of food, water, and medical supplies, medical personnel are doing all in their power to treat patients and the injured, including turning to non-traditional medical techniques, according to PRCS.
The organization declared that it held the international community and parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention responsible for the catastrophic humanitarian situation that followed the total collapse of Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure.
Along with al-Shifa Hospital, a significant medical facility in northern Gaza, Al-Quds Hospital in Gaza has closed its doors to new patients. Staff members claim that the Israeli shelling, along with a shortage of fuel and medication, poses a risk to the lives of those undergoing treatment.
Newborns die in al-Quds hospital
Medical personnel noted that due to Israeli blockades, hospitals in the northern part of the Palestinian enclave are scarcely able to provide care for people confined within. Every day, there are more and more deaths and injuries, yet the injured have fewer and fewer places to go.
According to Ahmed al-Kahlout, who was following Israeli instructions and heading south because he thought there was nowhere safe in Gaza, “my son was injured, and there was not a single hospital I could take him to so he could get stitches.”
According to a plastic surgeon at al-Shifa Hospital, the incubator facility was bombed, forcing them to arrange premature babies on regular beds and use what little power was left to turn on the air conditioning to a warm temperature.
Deaths in Gaza so far
Israeli bombardment, according to spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra of the Gaza Health Ministry, is “terrorizing medical officials and civilians alike.”
In just five weeks, over 11,000 Palestinians have died in Gaza as a result of Israeli attacks, the majority of them were women and children.
