The people of Gaza have reported receiving worm-infested food aid. In a video posted on YouTube in the Middle East Eye channel shows a woman unboxing what seems to be worm-infested canned food. Several cans were in the box and all of those were covered with maggots and worms.
People expressed their disgust and anger as the short clip was shared on various social media platform. In the video it was seen that most of the cans were covered with worms. It seems pretty clear that these food are not consumable as its rotten.
How did canned food became worm-infested?
Usually, canned food is safe and can be preserved for a long time. But in the video, we can clearly see the worms crawling all over the box. According to the comments of various users, this was due to the food aid truck in Rafa crossing were blocked by Israeli forces. Since the trucks were held for months, the food were rotten.
Other users commented that the worm-infested food aid was sent deliberately to the people of Gaza. Although it’s unclear how the food aid became infested, but it’s clear that this food cannot be consumed.
Food aid sent to Gaza
In the last 7 months of the war, various food aid was sent to Palestine. Countries like Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Jordan, Egypt, America, etc. sent food and various necessary aid to Palestine. Jordan air dropped food aid to Gaza a few months ago. American food aid were also sent to the people of Gaza through air drops a few months ago. As the war drags on, the people of Gaza are denied of food, water and electricity. The situation is becoming more dire by each passing day.
Food and other necessities are becoming scarce as hospitals are also closing down. Al-Quds hospital stopped its operation months ago due to lack of medical supplies and electricity.
The worm-infested food aid that are found in Gaza now poses another issue. The crisis still continues as IDF continues it’s operations in Gaza.
