In a midnight strike, on April 8th, 2024, Israeli jets targeted and “eliminated” Ali Ahmad Hussein, Hezbollah field commander and three other members from Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Forces.
The UN issues a warning that shelling was spreading and calls for an end to the cycle of violence. The Israeli military claims to have killed a Hezbollah commander in an airstrike that occurred overnight in Lebanon.
According to a statement released by the Israeli military on Monday, Ali Ahmad Hussein, a member of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force, was “eliminated” by Israeli jets in the as-Sultaniyah region of southern Lebanon. Hussein was accused of attacking Israeli targets in the past few months.
It was also reported that two more Hezbollah fighters were killed in the strike. Numerous rockets have been fired into the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights from Lebanon in the meantime. Fighters from Hezbollah claimed to be attacking nearby air defense installations and an army camp.
Alongside the Gaza war, Hezbollah and the Israeli military have been exchanging gunfire across Lebanon’s southern border, heightening concerns about a potential regional catastrophe.
In the past six months, Israeli strikes have claimed the lives of around 270 Hezbollah members and 50 civilians, including children, medical professionals, and journalists. Approximately twelve Israeli soldiers and half as many civilians have died as a result of Hezbollah’s missile attacks.
