The death was confirmed by Captain Scot Williams of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide division. Initially, the cause of death was undetermined, but there was no trace of foul play.
Cause of death
Matthew’s body was found submerged in a Jacuzzi in his Los Angeles home. Drowning seems to be the primary cause of death, but it hasn’t been confirmed officially.
According to TMZ, his home in the Los Angeles, California, area contained prescription medicines but no illegal substances. The Friends actor was well-known for smoking, which is one of the factors contributing to respiratory disorders like emphysema or chronic bronchitis. COPD medications are prescribed for patients with these conditions.
It was also found that Matthew was playing pickleball for two hours near his house on Saturday. He was reportedly in “good spirits” during the game, according to sources who spoke with the newspaper. Shortly after, his aide picked up a new iPhone and some prescription glasses for him.
Two hours later, the assistant supposedly went back to his house and discovered him unconscious in his jacuzzi before dialing 911. They then seemed to have called an unidentified woman, Matthew’s mother, and one of his siblings.
