The bloc hasn’t released any united comments thus far this year because it is bitterly split over how to phrase statements about the conflict in Ukraine.
Russia and China oppose attributing Moscow’s role in the conflict in Ukraine, but Western nations like the United States, France, and Canada have demanded a strong denunciation as a prerequisite for a united statement.
The theme of this year’s summit is derived from the Sanskrit phrase “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” which translates to “The World is One Family”.
