Due to the absence of electricity, hospitals in Gaza are running on generators. Since all the supplies have been stopped, the hospitals will soon run out of fuel. Hospitals in Gaza will have to shut down then. Various life-saving machines, including dialysis machines and ICUs, will have to be shut down.
This is dire news, as thousands of patients will be left without treatment, which will soon lead to deaths. Gaza needs urgent medical supplies as well as other materials.
Dire situations at the hospitals in Gaza
After Israeli defense minister Benny Gantz declared a complete siege of Palestine, basic necessities and other supplies were stopped. That means the people of Gaza will be deprived of food, fuel, electricity, etc. The hospitals were running on generators, but the fuel was almost depleted. Soon, the generators will shut down, and many life-saving treatments will stop.
The hospitals in Gaza have already announced that there is a shortage of disinfectants, medicines, and many medical supplies. But now a grave danger is the absence of electricity; without it, many lives will be lost. The CKD patients need 3–5 dialysis per week, and if they don’t, they will die. There are several patients in the ICUs whose lives will be lost.
Pregnant women and newborns not getting treatments
According to the United Nations, there are currently about 50,000 pregnant women in Gaza. These women are not getting even the most basic healthcare. Every month, about 5,500 women will give birth, but already they’ve developed several critical health issues. There’s no place for them to go, no place for them to seek assistance.
“Several newborns are admitted to the NICUs, and if they are taken off, they will die. This is a death sentence” – a Palestinian physician says.
Shortage of electricity
There have been unsuccessful attempts to negotiate and permit the admission of fuel and essential medical supplies. The Gaza Power Plant is still not operating, which casts doubt on the Strip’s capacity to support life in the coming days.
According to the Gaza Power Plant, Israel must end the siege and allow the population access to the fuel they so desperately need.
Accessing money at ATMs and banks has become extremely difficult due to the power outages. Families that long to communicate with loved ones who live abroad are left without a way of doing so, adding yet another level of suffering to already unbearable circumstances.
Access to information, sources, and witnesses—the foundation of accurate reporting—has grown more challenging, if not impossible, for journalists operating on the front lines in Gaza.
Immediate foreign assistance needed
The Israeli media spread lies about Hamas beheading babies. But today, as Israel is starving Gaza of food, water, fuel, electricity, and other basic supplies. This is indeed a death sentence. Innocent children, babies, and women, especially pregnant women, have no part in this war. They should be spared, but the Israeli armies are targeting the hospitals in Gaza.
As of today, 28 professionals have been killed. Israel has committed several war crimes, including the illegal use of white phosphorus. Now they’re targeting civilians. A line must be drawn somewhere before it’s too late.
