Israel bombs a UN school located in the Jabalia refugee camp recently. Israel increased its bombardment of the Gaza Strip one day after striking a convoy of ambulances carrying seriously injured patients from al-Shifa Hospital to the Rafah border crossing. The strikes targeted hospitals, schools, and mosques.
The Palestinian health ministry reports that at least 15 people were killed and 54 injured after an Israeli airstrike attacked the al-Fakhoora school, which is operated by the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) in the Jabalia refugee camp, early on Saturday morning.
The director of Al-Shifa Hospital, Muhammad Abu Silmeyeh, stated, “It is anticipated that the number of deaths will increase.”
Israel bombs a UN school
The al-Fakhoora school was a haven for thousands of individuals who had been forced to flee their homes after Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip. Al Jazeera was informed by an eyewitness to the attack that four members of their family were killed or injured in the bombing.
“We are not involved in any way with the Hamas organization. The witness said, “There were only women and children in the room. The third significant assault on the Jabalia camp occurred at the school.
It happened just hours after a horrific attack that killed at least 20 people at the Osama bin Zaid school, which was providing sanctuary for displaced families in the al-Saftawi neighborhood north of Gaza City, according to local media.
The al-Nasser Children’s Hospital in western Gaza City was also struck on Saturday morning, and multiple local media sites claimed deaths among the civilian population.
According to a spokesperson for the Health Ministry, there are currently 2,200 people in Gaza believed to be buried beneath the rubble of demolished structures, including 1,250 children.
Generators and solar panels are being targeted
Local media reported that Israeli forces also targeted the solar panels and electricity generators at Gaza City’s al-Wafa Hospital.
According to a correspondent with the Anadolu agency, the explosion caused a large fire in the hospital courtyard, which took several hours for civil defense teams to put out.
The Israeli army attacked the entrance to al-Shifa Hospital, as well as the vicinity of al-Quds Hospital and the Indonesian Hospital, the day before. Journalist Hani Mahmoud in south-facing Khan Younis, Gaza, claims that residential houses with solar panels have also been struck by Israeli air strikes. He told the Qatar-based news television network Al Jazeera, “This seems to be the final nail in the coffin.”
The Israeli army wants people to depart. The meager electricity they received from the solar panels was their last source of sustenance, he claimed.
In the meantime, there was additional damage to a water tank in eastern Rafah. “It appears to be an additional method of informing people, ‘We intend to destroy everything that is essential to your existence,'” he continued.
Based in Gaza The public water tank was used to service multiple neighborhoods, according to Al-Aqsa TV.
Separately, an Anadolu correspondent stated that two mosques in the al-Sabra neighborhood of southern Gaza, the Ali bin Abi Talib and the Al-Istijabah mosques, were bombarded by the Israeli army.
This is a component of Israel’s military strategy, according to Tamer Qarmout, assistant professor of public policy at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, who spoke with Al Jazeera.
“Talks in Israeli media suggest that the Israeli army will begin phase two operations in Gaza the following week. This refers to strategic ground operations throughout Gaza. Therefore, Israel wants to force all people to flee south before that happens, he claimed.
Thus, the Israeli army is denying any means of subsistence to the residents who are stranded in northern Gaza. Water tanks, public buildings, hospitals, and even UNRWA schools where people are seeking safety have all been damaged. People won’t have much choice but to head south soon, Qarmout continued.
Why don’t people evacuate?
Despite the Israeli army’s orders for inhabitants in Gaza to temporarily relocate south since the start of the besieged Strip operation, he pointed out that many people have chosen to stay due to fear for their safety despite the Israeli army’s constant shelling of the whole enclave.
“As many attempted to escape south, the road was bombarded. If there is no humanitarian passage to the south, how can they feel safe? stated Qarmout.
According to the Israeli army, on Saturday between 11:00 and 14:00 GMT, inhabitants of the northern Gaza Strip would be permitted to evacuate south down Salah al-Din Street, the main thoroughfare in Gaza.
However, Qarmout claims that Israel has a track record of violating agreements when fighting.
What assurances are there that Israel won’t bombard while escaping south? He claimed that there are no international safeguards like the UN to keep an eye on matters and guarantee that individuals won’t be attacked. Assume that this mandate is granted to the Red Cross. People will then feel secure and assured.
