For the second day in a row, Israel raided Gaza’s al-Shifa hospital on Thursday. IDF has been bombing around al-Shifa hospital for days and started their raids on 14th November.
Starting at two in the morning on Wednesday, Israeli troops attacked the major medical institution located in the coastal enclave. Israel has maintained for years that Hamas was operating a command center out of the hospital. According to the Israeli army, the operation assisted them in locating proof to support their claims.
What was found in the Al-Shifa hospital
Video footage from an unnamed structure within the medical facility was made public by the Israeli military.
The military alleges in the video that three duffel bags carrying an assault rifle, grenades, Hamas uniforms, and flak jackets were discovered hidden in an MRI lab.
The army also displayed assault guns without ammo clips and a laptop that it claimed to have located.
“These weapons have absolutely no business being inside a hospital,” Israeli military spokesman Jonathan Conricus declared, adding that he thought the information was “just the tip of the iceberg.”
What about Hamas tunnels and military command?
Israel said that Hamas was running tunnels beneath al-Shifa Hospital in the days preceding the raid. It further asserted that the hospital served as Hamas’ military outpost and command center.
President of the United States Joe Biden, who charged Hamas with war crimes for housing its military headquarters beneath the hospital, supported Israel’s assertions.
However, the Israeli army has not provided any proof of Hamas-run tunnels or a military command center beneath the hospital more than 24 hours after the attack began. The video of the tunnel and the weapons that IDF showed are suspected to have been planted by themselves. BBC and CNN refused the IDF’s evidence as it seemed clearly to be placed by the IDF themselves.
Are there tunnels underneath the hospital?
The general secretary of the Palestinian National Initiative, Mustafa Barghouti, stated that the footage Israel had so far revealed from beneath al-Shifa Hospital might have easily been staged by the army.
The seasoned Palestinian lawmaker said Al Jazeera, “All they’ve shown is a laptop and a Kalashnikov that they could have put there easily and claim that it was found there.”
The Israeli army initially shared a video of Conricus giving viewers a tour of several areas of al-Shifa on X, formerly Twitter, claiming that the footage was uncut and unedited.
However, it removed that post and then uploaded a nearly identical video with a few changes. This stoked doubts about the validity of Israel’s statements on social media.
What is Hama’s response?
The Israeli military’s most recent assertions have been refuted and rejected by Hamas.
Senior Hamas member Ezzat El Rashq, who is stationed in Qatar, stated, “The occupation forces are still lying… as they brought some weapons, clothes, and tools and placed them in the hospital in a scandalous manner.”
He continued by saying that Hamas has demanded time and time again that a committee from the World Health Organization, the United Nations, and the International Committee of the Red Cross investigate Israel’s allegations that Hamas tunnels exist beneath Gaza hospitals.
According to Barghouti, Israel has consistently turned down requests for an impartial, multinational delegation to look into the circumstances in al-Shifa. He remarked, “Israel doesn’t want that because they are aware that they are lying.”
What is happening in al-Shifa now?
With soldiers stationed on all sides of the hospital, Israel’s military is still attacking al-Shifa, according to Hani Mahmoud of Al Jazeera, who was reporting from Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
The medical facility’s building housing the specialized surgeries has been demolished by the Israeli force. He claimed that all of the medical equipment within the building, as well as the walls separating the rooms, had been entirely destroyed.
It is thought that about 2,000 people who were taking refuge at al-Shifa, together with hundreds of patients, physicians, and nurses, are still present at the hospital.
As of right now, Barghouti stated, “What we see is that this war is about attacking civilians, attacking hospitals, and destroying medical facilities.”
